Fit for a king?

Bobby played King Melchior (the Frankincense one) in the Nativity play this year. Of course, I wanted to make him a costume.

Ever since I made this cape for my goddaughter I have been wanted to make a less feminine version for Bobby. This was my chance. I found some offcuts of silk dupion in the local curtain shop and transformed them into, in my humble opinion, a rather regal cloak (which I am hoping will later be transformed into a magical cloak or a superhero cloak or any other kind of cloak that takes Bobby’s fancy)

Of course a king needs a crown. Taking the birthday crown in Amanda Soule’s The Creative Family as my inspiration I fashioned one out of wool felt. Bobby and I spent a happy half hour in the button shop choosing suitably shiny buttons, which were then sewn on as jewels.

The play itself was adorable, of course. But we stupidly forgot our camera. All we have is this very blurry picture from another mum’s phone:

Oh and a DVD that I am very much looking forward to bringing out once Bobby is a teenager.
